On behalf of entire Nepali community, I would like to thank Council President Rolando R. Lavarro Jr., and entire elected officials for passing a historic Council Resolution today on December 19, 2018 to become sister City between Jersey City and Indrawati Rural Municipality of Nepal.
Yesterday was my birthday and it was the biggest gift ever for my life. I would also like to thank Mayor Steven M. Fulop for his willingness to make this great city of ours to make sister city of Nepal’s first rural municipality Indrawati and its Mayor Banshalal Tamang.
I am also proud to play a role of emissary between these two municipalities. History has been made. Thank you all.
This historical Resolution will bring the United State of America and Nepal further closer to the relationship between our two countries, one which will bring Jersey City and Indrawati Rural Municipality closer.
I am very happy that this will be the platform to learn from each other’s culture, tourism and investment. This is a very proud moment for entire Nepali Community. Actually, It was my dream to connect my motherland to this adopted great land of opportunity and live a American dream. That dream came true today.
As we all know that, the City of Jersey City has been our big supporter. It has given us hope and healing. The City provided its City Hall foreground to host candle light vigil for Nepal’s earthquake victims on May 3, 2015 and Council President Lavarro, Council Women At Large Joyce Watterman and other elected officials were there with us to pray for Nepal.
On May 27th, 2015, the Municipal Council of City of Jersey City had passed the TPS Resolution for Nepal. This great City became the first and the only City out of more than 39,000 U.S. Cities to pass this historic resolution.
Also, Council Meeting observed one minute silence for the victims of earthquake. The Council has passed another Resolution for asking renewal of TPS for Nepalis in the US in 2018 as well. I would like to thank Council President Mr. Lavarro for taking the lead. Also, I would like to thank all the Council Members for passing the resolutions twice.
We are also so thankful of historic Nepal Flag Raising Ceremony that Jersey City hosted on June 30, 2017 which also became the first U.S. City to hoist Nepal flag in the City Hall.
Once again, thank you so much for passing this historic and monumental resolution on sister city.
My special gratitude goes to Marlene, my dear husband and Jersey City Nepali Community Co-founder Pradeep Pariyar Thapa and all other distinguished dear Nepali friends and friends of Nepal for making this happened.
My special thanks to Kishor Panthi, Kiran Marahatta, and Deepak Pariyar for doing live reporting. Also my special thanks to Anzan Shrestha, Sushma Aryal, Bimala Timsina, Sunita Sharma, Kanchan Basnet, Urgen Sherpa, Chhiring Nani, Sita Pariyar and all for attending and supporting this historical event. God bless you all.
