President Bidya Devi Bhandari in New York

President Bidya Devi Bhandari arrived in New York this morning leading a Nepali delegation to attend aHigh-Level event ‘Women in Power’ on 12 March 2019. The Event is being hosted by Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, the President of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly, on the occasion of the 63rd Session of the Commission on Status of Women (CSW-63).
Later in the evening, the President attended a high-level welcome dinner hosted by the President of the General Assembly, together with Kersti Kaljulaid, President of Estonia; Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, President of Croatia; Paula-Mae Weekes, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; and other women leaders who are in New York to attend event.
The President was welcomed at the John F. Kennedy International Airport by Arjun Kumar Karki, Ambassador of Nepal to the United States of America ; Amrit Bahadur Rai, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations; and other officials of the Permanent Mission and the Consulate General of Nepal in New York.
The President is scheduled to participate in the ‘High-Level Roundtable ‘How Women Leaders Change the World’, which is one of the three roundtables organized as part of the event. She will focus on the key question, ‘how women’s leadership is essential to address today’s global challenges’. She will also meet the Secretary-General of the United Nations; President of the General Assembly; and will hold bilateral meeting with presidents of Estonia and Croatia, among others.
Similarly, Tham Maya Thapa, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen arrived in New York yesterday to participate in the CSW-63. The Hon. Minister attended the Opening of the session. She also delivered a statement at the High-level Ministerial Dialogue highlighting Nepal’s good practices in social protection, including a number of measures to implement Nepal’s national and international commitments. She is scheduled to deliver a national statement in the General Debate of the CSW-63 tomorrow.
